I have spent my career in television and print media, a career that requires me to be an independent thinker who can work effectively and collaboratively as part of a team. I am a producer at “The Chronicle Show” on Channel 5, and have won three Emmys, a Gabriel Award and a Media Award from the Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress. I have produced many stories on education including topics such as Teen Suicide, ADHD, Dyslexia, Teaching Boys, College Rape Prevention and Down Syndrome. I have spent my career asking questions, understanding complex issues, focusing on the most important part of a situation, and communicating problems and solutions in ways that are meaningful to our community. These are experiences and capabilities that will help me to be an effective School Committee member.
In 1953 my grandparents bought a split-level ranch in Oak Hill Park for $15,990. They moved from Chelsea in hopes for a brighter future and better schools for their children. As a student at Newton South High School I watched the local news magazine program “Chronicle” every night and 16 years ago began my dream job as a producer for that same show. Newton Public Schools are considered the best in the state. My parents, my son and I have reaped the benefits of this special school system and I am committed to continuing that high quality education so no child is left behind.
I am running for School Committee because I believe education is at the root of all we do in life. Newton Public Schools helped me reach my potential and I want to make sure all our children have an opportunity to realize their dreams.
